Clad in blues brothers style suits and shades the Guessmen wouldn’t look out of place on the set of a David Lynch film. Come to think of it, their music would fit in pretty well too. Songs like “my spaceship” demand you to nod your head and move but have a really eiree, burlesque quality. Complete with random trumpet refrains and distorted megaphone vocals the Guessmen produce a sound that is unlike anything else around at the moment. Sludgey effects and basslines twist and splutter over well programmed infectious beats that are topped off by some frankly surreal sounding vocals. The small crowd seemed transfixed throughout the whole of their set, some through sheer flabbergasted curiosity but most through being genuinely entertained. There definitely hasn’t been anything like this in Darlo for a long time and it was genuinely refreshing to watch.
