The Guessmen

Voodoo Rooms, Sunderland

After winning the Diesel-u-music prize last year, the band have continued to develop their own unique sound. Their model of eccentric pop takes us from Synth pop, to abstract electro pop, to jazz funk in a matter of seconds.

Highlight of the set is the former single, Spacehip, which exemplifies their avant-garde take on pop music. They are quite unlike any other band, which is a good thing, their brand of off kilter pop is brilliant on record but live, their lead singer Alan Edge turns into a ringleader of this post-modern pop mish mash. They are like bizarre hallucination, a surrealist stream of consciousness in futuristic wrapping. The crowd have no clue what is going to happen next, it is unpredictable brilliance.
